Expertise in systems modeling and data analytics is key to understanding and obtaining novel insights for complex systems, from waste arisings, to flows in waste processing plants, to material flows in cities and regions, to global systems of secondary resoruces. Collectively, CERRY experts have a very wide capability of systems modeling from industrial plant level (e.g. ASPEN) to statistics/ econometrics (e.g. using R), to computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to complex systems dynamics using agend-based apporaches, to soscioeconomics and psychology (Theory of planned behaviour).
State of the art laboratories, featuriung highly specialised equiepment are available for critical aspects of waste and resoruces management. Indicatively, a dedicated waste characterisation laboratory ensures represetative subsampling of solid waste samples from tens of Kg of original samples down to mg of final test samples, and is organised according to the theory of sampling (ToS). For the analytical determinaton, statistical experimental desing (DoE) is customarily used to identify statistically significal effects and global optima.
The academics and researchers of CERRY actively participate in hundreds of national, and international professional and industrial netwokrs, and intergovermental bodies. They offer to their professions and enable the effective and rapid uptake of impactful research.
